In this unit of study, you’ll build on your students’ prior knowledge and will continue with their small moment stories by brainstorming topic choices, planning/rehearsing their stories, sketching, and writing with emphasis on editing and revising too. The students will continue adding to their repertoire by studying the craft of an author(s) and incorporate these craft moves into their own writing. Their stories will recount well-elaborated events, including details, thoughts, actions, feelings, and providing a sense of closure. To do this work, students will look closely at the work of published writers and learn to let that writer function as a mentor noticing the author’s craftsmanship and thinking.
